The data based on contestants for 2009 assembly elections in Jharkhand was released in a press conference in Ranchi on December 13, 2009. According to the report, 321 candidates (32% of 997 considered by NEW) have pending criminal cases against them. About 71 of contesting candidates are crorepatis. That people care about the background of the candidates, before voting was clear from the fact that the website recorded upto a million hits on day before polling in Phase 3 and Phase 4.
