Press release - Analysis for contestants of upcoming haryana elections (Hindi)

Main Points of the analysis 

  1. Candidates and No of Political Parties
    There are a record 1222 candidates from 49 parties contesting from Haryana for 2009 assembly elections
  2. Pending Criminal Cases
    There are 67 candidates (out of 489, i.e. about 14%) who have pending criminal cases against them. Out of these, 24 (i.e. about 5%) have got serious cases against them, like that of murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, etc.
  3. Pending criminal cases Party wise
    Both INC and HJC (BL) have 14 candidates each contesting elections with pending criminal cases. It is closely followed by INLD and BSP, each having 12 such candidates.
  4. Constituencies with multiple candidates with pending criminal cases:
    In the following 13 constituencies, at least two candidates with pending criminal cases are contesting elections – Ambala Cantt, Ballabhgarh, Dabwali, Ellenabad, Faridabad, Faridabad NIT, Jagadhri, Kosli, Panipat Rural, Pataudi, Ratia, Uchana Kalan and Yamuna Nagar.
  5. Assets
    Of 489 candidates contesting elections, 251 candidates have declared that their assets are more than a crore, i.e. about 51% of the contesting candidates are crorepatis.
  6. Asset increase of re-contesting MLAs
    42 MLAs are re-contesting in these elections, whose affidavits are available from both 2005 and 2009 elections. The average increase in the assets of the MLAs in Rs is around 4.8 crores and in percentage 388%.
  7. PAN Card
    Several candidates have not declared their PAN card details in their affidavits inspite of space for it in their affidavits. A total of 192 (ie.39%) candidates have not declared their PAN details.
    In addition there are 50 candidates who have declared themselves to be crorepatis but have not declared their PAN card details.
  8. Low Assets
    Several candidates have also declared very low assets. Ram Niwas from Israna constituency has declared 0 assets.
  9. Liabilities
    Kailash Bhagat of INLD from Kaithal has declared Liabilities worth more than 55 Crores (against his total declared assets of 63 crores). He is followed by Kuldeep Bishnoi of HJC (BL) from Adampur with liabilities of 12 crores (against his total declared assets of 17 Crores).
  10. Women candidates
    Only 68 women candidates (only 5.5 %) are contesting this time. Amongst major parties, INC has put up 12 women candidates, INLD has put up 9 and BJP has put up 7 women candidates.
