Please find attached the analysis for bye-elections of state assembly in 3 constituencies of Punjab.
These are the first state assembly bye-elections being held after Lok Sabha 2009 results. All parties had showed concern on the fact that 158 MPs with pending criminal records are part of the 15th Lok Sabha. However, it seems that the concern is just a concern.
The highlights of the report for bye-elections in 3 constituencies of Punjab are-
1. Total no. of Candidates = 21
2. Total no. of Candidates with Criminal Records= 3. There is one candidate from each constituency with pending criminal records.
3. Major political parties have fielded candidates with criminal records, with INC having 2 candidates with pending criminal records and SAD having 1 candidate with pending criminal record. BJP has not fielded any candidates.
4. One candidate each of INC & SAD has pending attempt to murder charge against him as per their self sworn affidavits.
5. There are 6 crorepati candidates- 3 each from SAD and INC.
6. Among major parties, the average asset per candidate for SAD is 26 crores and INC is 8 crores. .
7. Out of 21 contestants no candidate is a woman.
