Appeal for Civil Society Election Watch campaign for the coming Lok Sabha Elections

ADR has had some success in improving Indian democracy, and is carrying out a national campaign for the coming Lok Sabha elections. The main focus of the campaign is to prevent people with criminal records and those who are corrupt from being given tickets by political party leaders. We have already had some modest success in the past as one of the attached documents shows. This initiative started at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) with a group of professors and alumni getting together.

Please do send in your cheques in favour of 'Association for Democratic Reforms' (www.adrindia.org). The cheques can be mailed to Professor Trilochan Sastry, Indian Institute of Management, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore 560076, India or to Association for Democratic Reforms, "CORE HOUSE', Off C. G. Road, Near Parimal Garden, Ellisbridge, Ahmedabad - 380 006, Gujarat, India.

We also accept donations online. To keep track of donations and keep our accounts in order, we would request those who want to remit online to send us an email with their name, address, Bank, and amount remitted (trilochans@iimb.ernet.in, adr.delhi@gmail.com or adrindia.99@gmail.com). We will send you our account details and numbers so that you can transfer funds online – both from within India or outside.

Your funds will be acknowledged, audited statements given, and will only be used for the campaign and not for any overheads like salary, travel etc. We are aiming to raise a large amount of around Rs 3 crores - which is less than what one candidate spends in one major urban constituency. They are fighting for one seat, we are trying to fight all over India - hence our target is not so ambitious. We have partnered with over 1000 NGOs all over India in the last 8 years.

A sample of what we have been able to do and also what we plan to do is in Annexure 1. Annexure 2 gives information on the Founding Members of ADR. Annexure 3 gives information on the current Lok Sabha and various State Assemblies based on the work we did in the last 8 years. Some of it is surprising.

If anyone wants to spread the word around and help us get more funds, that will be great. We will be glad to call and talk to anyone who wants more details.
