A study conducted by the Society for Democratic Reforms (ADR) revealed that NOTA got 1.29 crore votes in the Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the last 5 years.

Details of the study:

NOTA recorded an average of 64,53,652 votes in assembly polls over 5 years. During this period, as far as the Lok Sabha polls are concerned, the maximum 51,660 votes have been cast in Gopalganj (Separate) Constituency in Bihar. At least 100 people have voted for NOTA in Lakshadweep.

As per the state legislative assembly polls, NOTA got maximum 1.46 percent votes (7,49,360) in 2020. The maximum number of 7,06,252 votes was recorded in Bihar. A minimum of 43,108 votes were cast in Delhi NCT.

At least 0.70 percent votes (8,15,430) were recorded for NOTA in 2022 assembly polls held in 5 states. Accordingly, 10,629 votes were cast in Goa, 10,349 votes in Manipur, 1,10,308 votes in Punjab, 6,37,304 votes in Uttar Pradesh and 46,840 votes in Uttarakhand.

In the 2019 Legislative Assembly polls, Maharashtra polled 7,42,134 votes for NOTA. In the 2018 assembly polls, NOTA got the highest vote share in Chhattisgarh at 1.98 percent.

Nota polled 27,500 votes in Maharashtra’s Latur constituency wise. At least he voted for only 9 votes in Thali constituency of Arunachal Pradesh.

While candidates won uncontested in Thirang, Allang East, Yachuli in Arunachal Pradesh and Vada Angami in Nagaland, NOTA did not get any votes.

Since 2018, NOTA has polled 26,77,616 votes in the tense assembly constituencies contested by candidates with two or more criminal convictions.

In Bihar, 1.63 percent votes (6,11,122) were recorded in 217 constituencies. It said that NOTA has received a total of 1.29 crore votes in the Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections during these 5 years.

Also, if NOTA gets more votes than the candidates in any constituency, the Democratic Reforms Association has recommended that a re-election should be held in that constituency without declaring anyone as the winner, and the candidate who has already contested should be denied permission.
