The Madhya Pradesh Assembly election will be held in a single phase. All 230 seats of the state will go to polls on November 17. The result will be declared on December 3.

Ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, as many as 186 of the 230 sitting MLAs in the poll-bound state are from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a report claimed. Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Madhya Pradesh Election Watch analysed the financial, criminal, and other background details of all the 230 sitting MLAs.

According to the report, 186 (81 per cent) of the 230 sitting MLAs are crorepatis. While 107 (83 per cent) out of 129 BJP MLAs, 76 (78 per cent) of the 97 Congress MLAs, and all three independent MLAs have declared assets worth more than Rs one crore.

The report mentioned that the average asset of a sitting MLA in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh is Rs 10.76 crore. It stated that BJP's MLA from Vijayraghavgarh Sanjay Satyendra Pathak has declared assets worth Rs 226.17 crore, while Chetanya Kasyap from Ratlam City assembly seat has disclosed assets worth Rs 204.6 crore.

According to the report, the average assets per MLA for the 129 BJP MLAs studied are Rs 9.89 crore, Rs 11.98 crore for the 97 Congress MLAs, Rs 96.95 lakh for one BSP MLA studied, and Rs 11.98 crore for three Independent MLAs.

Ram Dangore, a BJP sitting MLA from Pandhana (ST) assembly seat holds assets worth Rs 50,749, as per the report. It further mentioned that as many as 38 MLAs have declared liabilities of Rs 1 crore and above, with Congress Betul MLA Nilay Vinod Daga having assets of Rs 127.6 crore but liabilities totalling Rs 54 crore.

While BJP MLA from Khurai Bhupendra Singh has a high income of Rs 97.63 lakh as disclosed in his Income Tax Return (ITR). However, out of the 230 MLAs analysed, 20 (9 per cent) are women.

Regarding the educational qualification of the MLAs, the report mentioned that 62 (33 per cent) of MLAs indicated their educational qualification to be between 5th and 12th standard. While 158 (64 per cent) MLAs declared having an educational qualification of graduate or higher.

Meanwhile, as many as four MLAs are Diploma holders, five have declared themselves to be literate, and one has declared himself illiterate.

According to the report, 96 (42 per cent) of MLAs stated their age to be between 25 and 50 years old, while 134 (58 per cent) declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years old.
