Fifty nine per cent of candidates in the poll fray in Nagaland Assembly Elections are crorepatis. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) Nagaland Election Watch has analyzed affidavits of 193 out of 196 candidates contesting in the 2018 Nagaland Assembly Elections.

The state goes to polls on February 27 for the 60 Assembly Constituencies. Counting of votes is scheduled to take place on the March 3.

Out of the 193 candidates analysed, 114 (59 per cent) are crorepatis. The average of assets per candidate contesting the elections is Rs 3.76 crore.

Naga People's Front (NPF) has 43, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has 24, Bhartiya Janata Party has 13, National People's Party (NPP) 12, Janata Dal (United) 7, INC (6) while the Nationalist Congress Party has 2 crorepati candidates contesting the election.

TOP 3 CANDIDATES WITH MOST ASSETS

Ramongo Lotha of the JDU contesting from Sanis constituency has total assets worth Rs 38.92 crore.
KL Chishi of the BJP contesting from Atoizu seat has Rs 38.20 crore assets.
Chishi is followed by Neiphiu Rio of the NDPP contesting from Northern Angami-2 seat has net assets worth Rs 36 crore.

Interestingly, the number of candidates who have declared criminal cases is very less. Out of the 193 candidates analysed, 3(2 per cent) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves while another 3 (2 per cent) candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

Fifty two (27 per cent) candidates have declared their educational qualification to be between Classes 8 and 12 while 137 (71 per cent) candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above. There are 3 candidates who are illiterate.

75 (39 per cent) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 117 (61 per cent) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. One candidate has declared his age above 80 years.

There are only 5 (3 per cent) women candidates are contesting the election.
