An analysis of the winners of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections showed that 341 (63%) winners got 50% or more of the total votes polled in their constituencies, while 201 (37%) won with less than 50% of the votes. The report was released by the Association for Democratic Reforms on Thursday.

Of the 303 BJP winners, 79 won with less than 50% of the votes, while 224 (74%) BJP Parliamentarians got more than 50% vote-share in their respective constituencies, the report said. The report also stated that of the 225 re-elected winners, 160 (71%) had won with more than 50% of the votes.

On the other hand, of 52 Congress winners, 34 got less than 50% of the votes and 18 MPs got more than 50%, the report said.

Of the 233 winners who had declared criminal cases against them, 115 won against runners-up with clean records. Of the winners with declared criminal cases, 132 (57%) won with 50% or more vote-share.

The report added that of the 475 crorepati winners, only 54 had defeated non-crorepati runners-up. Of those, five winners had won by more than 30% of the votes polled. On the other hand, only 48 non-crorepati winners had won against crorepati runners-up, 21 of them with more than 50% vote-share. Of the crorepati winners, 313 (66%) won with a vote-share of 50% and above, the report stated.

Meanwhile, of the 78 women elected to the Lok Sabha this time, the highest margin of victory (51.3%) was secured by BJP's Darshana Vikram Jardosh in Surat, Gujarat. She was also the winner with the highest vote-share, at 74%.
