There are 63% of the members of the Bihar Legislative Council who have criminal cases registered against them. There are two MLCs who are facing murder case and 9 are facing attempt to murder case. Not only this, the Legislative Council is dominated by millionaires. 90% of MLCs are millionaires. Out of 60 members, there are 25 members whose assets are more than 10 crores. The richest independent is Sachchidanand Rai. His total assets are 1108 crores. The poorest is Munni Devi of RJD.

These figures have been released by ‘Association for Democratic Reforms’ (ADR) and ‘Bihar Election Watch’. The Legislative Council is called the Upper House. It is believed that the members coming in it will represent different groups, from the educated society, from the intelligentsia. A clean image is expected from such members. But, the figures that have come out are shocking.

The data analyzes the financial, criminal and other details of 60 out of 75 sitting members of the Legislative Council. In this, due to non-availability of affidavits of three members of the Legislative Council, they have not been analyzed. 12 Nominated Legislative Council members are not required to submit their affidavits. Therefore, analysis of only 60 members has been given.

Murder case going on on 2 MLCs

According to the ADR report, 38 out of 60 members of the Legislative Council have declared criminal cases against themselves. At the same time, there are 20 such members, who are facing serious criminal cases. There are two such members in the Bihar Legislative Council, who are also facing murder charges. There are 9 members who are facing trial for attempt to murder. The house which is known for its dignity, while two members are facing trial for atrocities against women.

11 MLCs of BJP with criminal image

11 out of 16 BJP members (69%) are facing criminal charges. Talking about RJD, 10 out of 14 MLAs (71%) have criminal cases pending against them. 8 out of 17 JDU MLCs (47%) have criminal cases. Three out of four Congress MLCs are tainted with 75 per cent criminal cases. At the same time, both the MLCs of CPI have criminal cases. Out of 5 independent MLCs, 2 are facing criminal cases.

Out of 60 members of the Legislative Council, there are 25 members whose assets are more than 10 crores. At the same time, the assets of 10 members are between 5 crores and 10 crores. There are 19 such members whose assets are between one crore to 5 crores. There are 6 members whose assets are between 20 lakh to one crore. But there is not a single member below 20 lakhs.

If we talk about millionaire MLCs in a party-wise manner, then 54 out of 60 members (90%) are crorepatis. In this, BJP has 15 out of 16, JD(U) 15 out of 17, RJD 12 out of 14, Congress 3 out of 4 and five independent MLCs are crorepatis.

RJD’s Munni Devi poorest MLC

Talking about the top 3 millionaire MLC, independent Sachchidanand Rai comes at number one. His total assets are 1108 crores. BJP’s MLC Rajiv Kumar comes at number two, whose assets have been estimated at 159 crores.

At the same time, the assets of BJP MLC Ashok Kumar Agarwal are 101 crores. The same, if we talk about the three poorest MLCs, then RJD’s Munni Devi is the owner of property worth only 29 lakhs. At number two is Neeraj Kumar of JDU, whose assets are only 49 lakhs. At number three is Mohammad Soheb of RJD, whose assets have also been estimated at 49 lakhs.

RLJP’s Bhushan Kumar earns 4 crores per annum

There are 3 members of Bihar Legislative Council, whose annual income is in crores. Bhushan Kumar of Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party and his wife together earn 4 crores per year. He has said in the affidavit that it is his company. On the other hand, Dinesh Prasad Singh of JDU has said in his affidavit about two crore annual income. He has told farming and house rent in his affidavit. BJP MLC Rajiv Kumar has declared his annual income as 2 crores. He has written in the affidavit that he has his own business.

Become MLC even after being just literate

There are 15 such members in the Legislative Council, whose educational qualification is between class 5th to 12th, while 43 members of the Legislative Council have declared their educational qualification as graduation and above. One member has declared his/her educational qualification as Diploma holder and one has declared himself as literate.
