A report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an organization working for electoral reforms, states that in 2021-22, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received donations of Rs 614 crore, while the Congress received Rs 95 crore.

According to an ADR report, for 2021-22, national political parties have declared total donations of Rs 780.774 crore from 7,141 donations (above Rs 20,000).

The report said that the BJP has declared a total receipt of Rs 614.63 crore from 4,957 donations, followed by the Congress. The Congress has declared Rs 95.46 crore from 1,255 donations. The donations declared by BJP are more than three times the total donations declared by Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), NPEP, Trinamool Congress for this period.

The ADR said that the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has declared that it has not received any donation above Rs 20,000 during 2021-22, as it has been declaring for the last 16 years.

Total donations to national parties increased by Rs 187.03 crore during 2021-22, which is an increase of 31.50 per cent over 2020-21.

Donations to the BJP increased from Rs 477.55 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 614.63 crore in 2021-22, an increase of 28.71 per cent in one year.

Congress donations increased from Rs 74.52 crore in FY 2020-21 to Rs 95.46 crore during 2021-22, which is an increase of 28.09 per cent.

The CPI(M) and the NCP have announced a reduction of 22.06 per cent (Rs 2.85 crore) and 40.50 per cent (Rs 24.10 lakh) less in donations in 2021-22, respectively, as compared to 2020-21.

This information has been received from the donation reports submitted by the political parties to the Election Commission.

Of the donations received by the BJP and the Congress, Rs 353 crore has come from the Prudent Electoral Trust, which is the top donor to the parties receiving the maximum amount.

The report states that Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Limited has donated Rs 15 crore to the Congress.
