ADR Report: A shocking news has come to light on the honorable people of the country. It has been told in this news that how many MLAs in the country are accused of cases like murder, rape, kidnapping. Anyway, it is said that it is not a big deal for a leader to be a criminal in Indian politics, rather it has been assumed that no principled person can do politics. A recent analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) claimed that around 44 per cent legislators in state legislatures across the country have declared criminal cases against themselves.

The report covers 4001 MLAs out of a total of 4033 working in 28 State Assemblies and two Union Territories. Kerala has the highest number of 70 per cent MLAs who have declared criminal cases against themselves.

Election Watch report

This analysis has been done by ADR and National Election Watch (NEW). It examines the affidavits filed before contesting elections on behalf of sitting MLAs in State Assemblies and Union Territories across the country. ADR pointed out that 1,136 or about 28 per cent of the MLAs analyzed have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. These include charges related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women.

Most tainted MLAs came out in these states in ADR report

If we look at the state-wise figures, 95 out of 135 MLAs in Kerala i.e. 70 per cent have declared criminal cases against themselves. Similarly, out of 242 MLAs in Bihar, 161 i.e. 67 percent MLAs have criminal cases registered against them. Similarly, Delhi has 44 out of 70 MLAs (63 percent), Maharashtra has 175 out of 284 MLAs (62 percent), Telangana has 72 out of 118 MLAs (61 percent) and Tamil Nadu has 134 out of 224 MLAs (60 percent). In his affidavit, he has given information about registration of case against him.

MLAs facing serious criminal cases

Along with this, according to the ADR report, 37 out of 70 MLAs in Delhi (53 percent), 122 out of 242 MLAs in Bihar (50 percent), 114 out of 284 MLAs in Maharashtra (40 percent), 31 out of 79 MLAs in Jharkhand (39%) In Telangana, 46 out of 118 MLAs (39%) and in Uttar Pradesh, 155 out of 403 (38%) MLAs have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

These MLAs were accused of rape

The report also revealed disturbing statistics related to crimes against women. As per reports, a total of 114 MLAs have declared cases related to crime against women. Out of these, cases related to rape (IPC Section-376) have been registered against 14 MLAs.

The property of the MLAs was also investigated

In this report, the property of the MLAs was also investigated. The average assets per MLA in the state assemblies was found to be Rs 13.63 crore. However, the average assets of MLAs with declared criminal cases is more than Rs 16.36 crore. While the average assets of MLAs without criminal cases is Rs 11.45 crore. 88 MLAs, or about 2 per cent of the MLAs included in the analysis, have been found to be billionaires. He has assets worth more than Rs 100 crore. Karnataka MLAs are on top in this. Where 32 out of 223 MLAs (14 per cent) are billionaires.
