The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has analysed self-sworn affidavits of 1064 out of 1066 candidates in the fray in the Bihar Assembly election, and has found that 375 candidates who are contesting in the Bihar election phase I are crorepatis. The records also show that 328 candidates in phase 1 of the Bihar election 2020 have criminal cases registered against them.

According to the ADR report, a total of 244 (23 per cent) candidates contesting in phase I of Bihar election 2020 have serious criminal cases (assault, murder, kidnap, rape-related cases) against them.

Bihar election 2020 is scheduled in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7 over a period of 11 days. The counting of the votes polled in the Bihar election 2020 is scheduled for November 10.

WHICH PARTY HAS MOST CRIMINAL CANDIDATES?

The political party that has fielded most candidates with a criminal background in phase I is Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Among the major political parties contesting in the Bihar election 2020, 30 (73 per cent) out of 41 candidates analysed from RJD have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits. On the other hand, BJP's 21 (72 per cent) out of 29 candidates have a criminal background.

Among others, 24 (59 per cent) out of 41 candidates analysed from Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), 12 (57 per cent) out of 21 candidates analysed from Congress, 15 (43 per cent) out of 35 candidates analysed from JD(U), and 8 (31 per cent) out of 26 candidates analysed from Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

PARTY-WISE CANDIDATES WITH SERIOUS CRIMINAL CASES

Here too, RJD has fielded 22 candidates who have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits in phase I of Bihar election 2020. Of a total of 41 RJD candidates contesting in phase 1 of Bihar election 2020, 22 (54 per cent) candidates have serious criminal cases registered against them, according to the ADR report.

In terms of candidates with serious criminal cases, RJD is followed by the LJP with 20 (49 per cent) out of 41 candidates, 13 (45 per cent) out of 29 candidates analysed from BJP, 9 (43 per cent) out of 21 candidates analysed from Congress, 10 (29 per cent) out of 35 candidates analysed from JD(U), and 5 (19 per cent) out of 26 candidates analysed from BSP have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

According to the ADR report, 29 candidates have declared cases related to crime against women. Out of 29 candidates, three candidates have declared cases related to rape (IPC Section-375 and 376).

THE CROREPATI CANDIDATES IN BIHAR POLLS PHASE I

The report says that out of the 1064 analysed candidates, 375 (35 per cent) are crorepatis. While 93 (9 per cent) candidates have declared assets worth Rs 5 crore and above, 123 (12 per cent) candidates contesting in Bihar election phase I, have declared assets worth Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore.

The average of assets per candidate contesting in the Bihar election 2020 phase I is Rs 1.99 crore.

WHICH PARTY HAS MOST CROREPATI CANDIDATES IN PHASE I?

Well, the RJD has scored here as well. Among the 41 candidates the RJD has fielded in phase 1 of Bihar election 2020, 39 (95 per cent) analysed candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore. In crorepati candidates in phase I, RJD is followed by the JDU and the BJP.

Among other parties, 31 (89 per cent) out of 35 candidates analysed from JDU, 24 (83 per cent) out of 29 candidates analysed from BJP, 30 (73 per cent) out of 41 candidates analysed from LJP, 14 (67 per cent) out of 21 candidates analysed from Congress and 12 (46 per cent) out of 26 candidates from BSP have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.

Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 35 JD(U) candidates analysed is Rs. 8.12 crore, 41 RJD candidates analysed is Rs 6.98 crore, 21 Congress candidates have average assets of Rs 6.03 crore, 41 LJP candidates have average assets of Rs 4.62 crore, 29 BJP candidates have average assets of Rs 3.10 crore and 26 BSP candidates have average assets worth Rs. 1.36 crore, ADR reported.
