The ruling party in the country, Bharatiya Janata Party has informed about receiving donations of about Rs 720 crore in the year 2022-23. The amount received by BJP in donations is five times more than the total amount received by four other national parties – Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and National People’s Party (NPP). Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has given this information. According to data released by ADR on Wednesday, national parties have received a total of Rs 850.438 crore from 12,167 donations (above Rs 20 thousand) for the financial year 2022-23.

Congress received donations of about Rs 80 crores

The country’s sixth national party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), announced that it did not receive any donation above Rs 20,000 during the financial year 2022-23. She has been giving this kind of information for the last 17 years. It is mandatory for registered political parties to disclose individual donations of more than Rs 20,000 received by them in a financial year. BJP has reported receiving Rs 719.858 crore through 7,945 donations and Congress has reported receiving Rs 79.924 crore through 894 donations.

National parties received maximum donations from Delhi

The donations declared by BJP are five times more than the total donations declared by Congress, AAP, NPP and CPI(M) for the same period. NPP is the only political party in the North-East which has the status of a national party. The ADR also revealed that national parties received a total of Rs 276.202 crore in donations from Delhi, followed by Gujarat at Rs 160.509 crore and Maharashtra at Rs 96.273 crore.

The total donations to national parties increased by Rs 91.701 crore during the financial year 2022-23, which is 12.09 percent more than the previous financial year 2021-22. The ADR said the amount of donations received by the BJP increased by 17.12 per cent from Rs 614.626 crore during the financial year 2021-22 to Rs 719.858 crore during the financial year 2022-23. However, the party’s donations decreased by 41.49 percent during the financial year 2020-21 compared to the financial year 2019-20. Congress’s donations during the financial year 2021-22 were Rs 95.459 crore, which declined by 16.27 percent to Rs 79.924 crore in the financial year 2022-23.
