The self-sworn affidavits of various chief ministers across the country shows that 13 of the 30 have pending criminal cases against them.

The data was analysed by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch based on the self-sworn affidavits of 30 chief ministers across states and Union Territories.

Chief Ministers with Criminal Cases:

Out of the all 30 Chief Ministers analysed from State Assemblies and Union Territories 13 (43 per cent) Chief Ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves.

Chief Ministers with Serious Criminal Cases:

13 (43 per cent) Chief Ministers have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, criminal intimidation etc.

Financial background:

Average Assets of Chief Ministers:

The average of assets per Chief Minister from state assemblies and union territories is Rs.33.96 Crores.

Crorepati Chief Ministers:

Out of the 30 Chief Ministers of State Assemblies and Union Territories analysed, 29 (97%) are crorepatis.

Highest assets:

At assets worth Rs 510 plus core, Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is at the highest followed by Pema Khandu from Arunachal with assets worth Rs 163 crore.

Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha is third on the list with assets to the tune of Rs 63 crore.

Lowest assets:

Lowest on the list is West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee. She has declared assets worth Rs 15 lakh. She is followed by the chief ministers of Kerala and Haryana, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manohar Lal Khattar who have both declared a little over Rs 1 crore as their assets.
