According to an analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms or the ADR, political parties in Manipur seem to have promoted candidates with money power and criminal backgrounds.The BJP has fielded the most candidates with criminal cases, followed by the JD(U).At least 21% of the 173 candidates in Manipur for the first phase elections have filed criminal allegations.Sixteen percent of them have serious civil cases against them.

Six candidates have filed charges of attempted murder (IPC Section-307) against themselves, according to the ADR.More than half of the candidates competing in the first phase of Manipur elections are crorepatis, according to the ADR.In addition, 8 (23%) out of 38 candidates studied from the BJP, 5(18%) out of 28 candidates studied from JD(U), and 3 (11%) out of 27 candidates investigated from NPP have made serious criminal allegations against themselves in their affi On February 28 and March 5, the state elections in Manipur will be held in two phases.
