42 per cent of the 78 Union Cabinet ministers have reported criminal cases against them, four of whom have been booked for attempt to murder. This information has come from the ADR report. On Wednesday, 15 new cabinet ministers and 28 state ministers were sworn in, taking the total number of council of ministers to 78.

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) cited electoral affidavits and said that in an analysis conducted by all these ministers, 42% have mentioned criminal cases registered against them. About 24 or 31 per cent of ministers have declared criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, etc. Nishit Pramanik of Behar constituency, who became minister of state for home affairs, has announced a murder case against him. It is also the youngest face of the 35-year-old Council of Ministers.

Four ministers have announced cases related to attempt to murder. These ministers are John Barla, Pramanik, Pankaj Chaudhary and V Muralidharan. Of the ministers analysed, 70 (90 per cent) are millionaires and the average assets per minister are Rs 16.24 crore. Four ministers have mentioned assets worth more than Rs 50 crore. These ministers are Jyotiraditya Scindia, Piyush Goyal, Narayan Tatu Rane and Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
