Meet Jaskirat Singh, a remarkable individual whose journey embodies the fusion of entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to societal betterment. As the CEO of Webrosoft Solutions (P) Ltd, Jaskirat has carved a niche for himself in the world of IT, demonstrating a passion for innovation and a keen eye for opportunity.
The Beginnings
Born and raised in Ludhiana, my parents were government teachers who migrated from Pakistan Punjab in 1947. Our family emphasised ethics, with my grandmother sharing stories of Gurus and Ramayana. I studied at Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, and later attended SD Govt College for Boys. I pursued B-Tech in chemical engineering from IIT Varanasi.
Motivation for Entrepreneurship:
Valuing freedom and disliking polluting industries, I chose entrepreneurship. The IT boom tempted me, but I aimed to stay close to family. Starting my IT business in Ludhiana aligned with my desires.
Achievements:
I cleared IIT JEE, became an entrepreneur, and ran a successful venture in my hometown. This freedom enabled me to engage in social projects, such as RTI camps, Punjab Election Watch, and supporting NGOs. Meeting President Barack Obama in 2010, showcasing our IT-based democracy-strengthening work, and receiving NASSCOM social innovation honours are some of the high points of my career. Founding PAC Mattewara, Sutlej, Buddha Dariya, and fighting environmental battles are other accomplishments I value.
Challenges:
Balancing time between business and social projects is demanding. Organising activists for environmental and climate change efforts is essential. Prioritising family alongside responsibilities poses a challenge for me.
Future Plans:
I trust the Almighty’s guidance. Continuing current efforts with greater enthusiasm is my aim.
Expectations from Government:
Governments should prioritize good governance, a just society, and a healthy environment. Divisiveness and neglecting vital issues must cease. Focusing on environment, healthcare, and education is crucial.
Stress Relief:
Reading non-fiction and conversing with fellow environmentalists help me unwind.
Beyond Entrepreneurship:
Engaging in social projects began with an RTI camp in 2006, recommended by Arvind Kejriwal. Collaborating with Prof Trilochan Sastry’s ADR led to Punjab Election Watch and IT systems development. We continue environmental activism through PAC Mattewara, Sutlej, and Buddha Dariya, fighting issues like polluting industries.
