An association for democratic reforms (ADR) report published on Mar 1 mentioned the properties, net worth, and other financial aspects of 225 Rajya Sabha members.

Their total property surmounted up to ₹19,602 cr, and 14% of them, i.e., 31, are billionaires.

Properties of Rajya MPs

In the combined report published by the ADR and NIW (National Election Watch), a survey of 225 members was conducted out of the total 233 MPs in the house.

The total properties of the different parties:

90 MPs of BJP - ₹3,360 cr

28 MPs of Congress - ₹1,139 cr

11 MPs of YSR-Congress - ₹3,934 cr

4 MPs of TRS - ₹5,534 cr

10 MPs of AAP - ₹1,148 cr

The average property of the top party’s MPs is reported to be: ₹37.34 cr for BJP, ₹40.70 cr for Congress, ₹1,383.74 cr for TRS, ₹357.8 cr for YSR-Congress, ₹6.37 cr for DMK, and ₹114,81 cr for AAP.

The top party’s members whose declared properties account for more than ₹100 cr include 9 out of 90 members from the BJP (10%), 4 out of 28 members from Congress (14%), 5 out of 11 members of the YSR-Congress (45%), 2 out of 10 members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) (20%), 3 out of 4 members of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) (75%), and 2 out of 6 members of the RJD (33%).


11 MPs of Gujarat possess property worth ₹1,183 cr


7 MPs of Telangana possess the most properties, worth ₹5,821 cr, followed by 11 MPs of Andhra Pradesh worth ₹3,934 cr, 31 MPs of Uttar Pradesh worth ₹3,088 cr, 18 MPs of Maharashtra worth ₹1,190 cr, 11 MPs of Gujarat worth ₹1,183 cr, and 7 MPs of Punjab worth ₹1,136 cr.

As a seat was vacant in Maharashtra, while four were undecided in Jammu-Kashmir, and the affidavits of three members are currently unavailable, nine seats remain unaccounted.

However, their property is speculated to be around ₹87.12 cr.

Ayodhya Rama Reddy (YSR-CP) - Andhra Pradesh - ₹2,577 cr

Jaya Amitabh Bachchan (Samajwadi Party) - Uttar Pradesh - ₹1,578 cr

Poorest MPs:

Sant Balbir Singh (AAP) - Punjab - ₹3 lakh

Leishemba Sanajaoba (BJP) - Manipur - ₹5 lakh

Prakash Chik Baraik (TMC) - West Bengal - ₹9 lakh

MPs with the highest debts:

Parimal Nathwani (YSR-CP) - Andhra Pradesh - ₹209 cr

Ayodhya Rama Reddy (YSR-CP) - Andhra Pradesh - ₹154 cr

Jaya Amitabh Bachchan (Samajwadi Party) - Uttar Pradesh - ₹149 cr

Criminal cases against Rajya Sabha MPs

Criminal cases were reported against 75 MPs (33%) of the Rajya Sabha, and 40 (18%) have serious criminal charges levied against them.

2 MPs have a murder case under IPC Section 302 filed against them, and 4 MPs have an attempt to murder case under IPC Section 307.

21 BJP MPs (23%) have criminal charges against them. Such charges are also levied against 14 MPs of Congress (50%), 5 MPs of TMC (38%), 4 MPs of RJD (67%), 4 MPs of CPI-M (80%), 3 MPs of AAP (36%), 4 MPs of YSR-Congress (36%), and 2 MPs of DMK (20%).
