Puducherry: Makkal Needhi Maiam’s (MNM) candidate M A S Subramanian is the richest candidate in the Union territory with movable and immovable assets worth Rs 39.35 crore, according to the self-sworn affidavit submitted by him. The Puducherry election watch (PEW) and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) that analysed the information submitted by the candidates contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Puducherry said four of the 18 candidates are crorepatis.
The other three candidates are V Vaithilingam (Congress) with net assets worth Rs 10.8 crore, K Narayanasamy (All India NR Congress) with Rs 8.37 crore and an independent candidate M Krishnamurthy with 1.88 crore.

Three candidates - Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam's candidate N Tamizh Marane, independent candidate S Thangavelu and CPI (ML) (L) candidate S Mothilal - have declared criminal cases against themselves and two of them - Tamizh Marane and Thangavelu - have declared serious criminal cases against them, as per a report released by PEW and ADR on Monday. The average asset per candidate from Puducherry is Rs 3.66 crore. Nine candidates have declared liabilities. Only one woman candidate is contesting from Puducherry.

Subramanian declared that his movable assets, including bank deposits, vehicles and gold and silver jewellery were worth Rs 12.72 crore. His wife has movable assets to the tune of Rs 15.59 lakh while a dependent Rs 18.99 lakh. He has also declared that his immovable assets were worth Rs 4.56 crore and that of his wife Rs 9.06 crore. He and his wife together have 176g of gold. His wife has a loan of Rs 2.88 crore.

Vaithilingam declared movable assets to the tune of Rs 2.94 crore. His wife’s movable assets were worth Rs 2.55 crore. His immovable assets were worth Rs 5.5 crore while his wife’s immovable assets worth Rs 1.17 crore. He has gold weighing 50g while his wife 900g.

Narayanasamy declared that his movable assets were worth Rs 2.34 crore and wife has declared Rs 23.43 lakh. He has agriculture land worth Rs 1.13 crore and non-agriculture land worth Rs 1.98 crore. He also owns flats worth Rs 2.05 crore. He has 6.5kg of gold valuables and 15.8kg of silver articles and his wife 400g gold valuables and 10.5kg of silver articles.
