Candidates contesting the Dr.Radhakrishnan Nagar by-election have reportedly undervalued assets, according to some activists . They have decided to file a complaint with the Election Commission regarding the undervaluation of assets by many of the 62 candidates.

According to a study by activists associated with the Association for Democratic Reforms and Arappor Iyakkam, key candidates including E.Madhusudhanan of AIADMK (PTA), TTV Dhinakaran of AIADMK (Amma) and Maruthu Ganesh of the DMK have undervalued their assets .

According to the study published on Tuesday, E.Madhusudhanan had declared assets including land measuring 3.11 acre in Thirunindravur, HIG flat in KK Nagar, 30 acre land in Thiruvalangadu and 2400 sq ft of land in Kottivakkam.

TTV Dhinakaran had declared assets such as 1000 sq ft building in Mylapore, 8726 sq ft land in Adyar and a farm house measuring 5.61 acre in Vanur. Maruthu Ganesh had declared that he owned a 1920 sq ft house in Old Washermenpet. The study however claimed that the candidates had not declared the actual market value of these assets.

Of the 57 candidates, seven candidates had declared criminal cases against themselves. P.Mathivanan of the DMDK had declared a case u/s 307 of IPC (attempt to murder). Independent candidate N.Gunasekar had also declared a charge u/s 307 of IPC.

The average assets per candidate contestingthe by-election was ₹96.84 lakh. K.Kalaikottuthayam of Naam Thamilar Katchi had declared the highest value with total assets of ₹14.14 crore. TTV Dhinakaran had declared assets worth ₹10.78 crore. E.Madhusudhanan had declared assets worth ₹5.38 crore. TTV Dhinakaran has declared liabilities amounting to ₹5.04 crore, topping the list of candidates with liabilities. Seventy percent of the candidates had not declared income tax details, the study said.
