The report has analyzed the income and expenditure of 37 regional political parties for the financial year 2017-18.

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party has topped the list of the richest regional party, followed by the DMK and TRS, according to the report released ADR.

The report has analyzed the income and expenditure of 37 regional political parties for the financial year 2017-18.

All 37 regional parties have declared a total income of Rs 237.27 crore for the financial year 2017-18.

Akhilesh Yadav’s party has the highest income of Rs. 47.19 crore, which forms 19.89 percent of the total income of all 37 regional parties, while DMK and TRS have declared a total income of Rs. 35.748 crore and Rs. 27.27 crore respectively.

“The total income of top three parties amounted to Rs 110.21 crore, which comprised 46.45 percent of the total income of 37 regional parties, collectively,” ADR said in its report.

As per ADR, of 37 regional parties, 15 parties have shown a decline in their income as compared to 2016-17 financial year, while 19 parties have shown an increase in their income.

According to the report, SP and DMK also have the highest expenditure with Rs. 34.53 crore and Rs. 27.47 crore respectively. The total expenditure of all 37 regional parties was Rs 170.45 crore for 2017-18. “Expenditure incurred by the top 3 political parties is 46.19 percent of the total expenditure as declared by 37 regional parties,” ADR stated.

The report further mentioned that 37 regional parties collected 32.58 percent of their total income from voluntary contributions, including donation and contributions and electoral bonds. Only JDS declared receiving an income of Rs 6.03 crore from contributions through electoral bonds.

As many as Rs 86.6 crores was income generated through membership fee by regional parties during the financial year 2017-18, the report suggests.
