Donations by regional parties: Aam Aadmi Party and Indian Union Muslim League reported a decline in donations compared to the 2019-20 financial year.

Out of the total donations received by regional parties in the country, Rs 113.791 crore i.e. about 91 percent of the donations went to just five parties. Election rights group Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) reported the information. A report by ADR focused on donations declared by regional parties to the Election Commission of India (ECI). This report is for the financial year 2020-21. The top five regional parties in terms of donations include Janata Dal (United), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

The report said that 91.38 percent of the total donations of regional parties i.e. Rs 113.791 crore went to the coffers of these five parties. While JD(U), DMK and TRS have announced an increase in their donations. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Indian Union Muslim League reported a drop in donations compared to the 2019-20 financial year.

The income of these groups has been observed to increase

DMK, TRS, JD(U) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) saw the highest percentage increase in their donation income between FY 2019-20 and FY 2020-21. Out of the 54 regional parties included in the report, only 6 have submitted their donation reports to the Election Commission within the stipulated time. Twenty-five other parties delayed their presentation by three to 164 days. The total donation amount declared by 27 regional parties is Rs 124.53 crore from 3051 donations. This includes both amounts above and below Rs 20,000.

JD(U) has received the most donations.

No information has been provided regarding grant receipt by JMM, NDPP, DMDK and RLTP for the financial year 2020-21. In terms of donations, JD(U) topped the list with Rs 60.155 crore from 330 donations. It is followed by DMK, which received Rs 33.993 crore from 177 grants. AAP announced getting Rs 11.328 crore from donations. IUML and TRS announced grants of Rs 4.165 crore and Rs 4.15 crore respectively.
