A staggering 35 percent out of all 31 chief ministers analysed from state assemblies and union territories 11 chief ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves, said Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) & National Election Watch (NEW).
ADR and NEW have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of current chief ministers in state assemblies and union territories across the nation.
Eight (26%) chief ministers have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, criminal intimidation, etc.
The average of assets per chief minister from state assemblies and union territories is Rs16.18 crore.
Out of the 31 chief ministers analysed, 25 (81%) are crorepatis. Chandra Babu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh and Amarinder Singh of Punjab are the richest three, while Manik Sarkar of Tripura, Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal and Mehbooba Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir form the bottom three.
Two chief ministers have over Rs 100 crore and above, six chief ministers have Rs 10 crore to Rs 50 crore, 17 chief ministers have Rs 1 crore to Rs 10 crore, while six chief ministers have less than Rs 1 crore.
Out of 31 chief ministers, just three are women.
The three youngest chief ministers – Pema Khandu, Devendra Fadnavis and Yogi Adityanath – are all from the BJP.
The oldest chief ministers are Amarinder Singh, Pinarayi Vijayan and Lal Thanhawla.
