THE third phase of the municipal council and nagar panchayat elections in Maharashtra was held on Sunday. It was contested across 20 municipal councils and two nagar panchayats in the districts of Aurangabad, Nanded, which fall under Marathwada region and Bhandara and Gadchiroli districts of Vidarbha region. The results of the phase three of municipal elections will be declared on Monday.

There are 1,623 candidates in the fray, including 119 for the posts of president of municipal councils. As per a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), there are 90 crorepati candidates in the third phase.

According to ADR and Maharashtra Election Watch, nine candidates were found to be in the age group of 21 to 24. 175 candidates fall in the age group of 25-30. The highest number of candidates, 349, are in the age group of 31-40. In the bracket of 41-50, a total of 333 candidates are contesting. Around 154 candidates are in the age bracket of 51-60. Numbers of candidates in the 61-70 and 71-80 age group are 57 and 5 respectively.

This time, nearly 49 per cent of candidates in the fray are women.
