NEW DELHI: Ninety-two per cent of donations above Rs 20,000 to BJP's kitty came from corporates including top donors like Bharti Group's Satya Electoral Trust, Sterlite Industries and Cairn India just ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Incidentally none of the three top donors had contributed to the saffron party in the previous year.

Donations from business groups amounted to Rs 157.84 crore, according to analysis by Association for Democratic Reforms. The analysis is based on data from the contribution report for the year 2013-2014 submitted by the BJP to the Election Commission.

Only 8% of donations above Rs 20,000 were made by individuals. About 772 individual donors donated a total of Rs 12.99 crores to the party.

Bharti Group's Satya Electoral Trust donated the maximum amount of Rs 41.37 crore to BJP from three donations followed by Sterlite Industries India Ltd which donated Rs 15 crore from four donations and Cairn India Ltd who donated Rs 7.50 crore from two donations to the party.

Incidentally, Satya Electoral Trust was also the top donor to Congress contributing Rs 36.50 crore during 2013-14. Satya Electoral Trust made the maximum contribution of Rs 4 crore to NCP too in the same year.

The total donations of BJP, Congress, NCP and CPI during the year 2013-14 show an increase of 158%, from the previous financial year, 2012-13.

The total donations of BJP in the same time period registered a 105% increase from Rs 83.19 crore during 2012-13 to Rs 170.86 crore during 2013-14. Donations declared by BJP is more than twice the aggregate declared by the INC, NCP, CPI and CPM during the same year (2013-2014).

The total amount of donations above Rs 20,000 declared by national parties was Rs. 247.79 crore from 2,361 donations. BSP declared that the party received no donations above Rs 20,000.

The donations declared by BJP amounts to 69% of the total donations declared by all the national parties together.

On an average, BJP received Rs 13.19 lakh per donor followed by Congress which received Rs 11.70 lakh and NCP Rs 1 crore. CPI received Rs 3.23 lakh while CPM got Rs 4.03 lakh per donor.

The largest share of donations came from Delhi. A total of Rs 45.21 crore was donated to BJP from 119 donations from Delhi by both corporates and individuals together. Congress too received maximum donations from Delhi (Rs 39.05 crore), as did CPI (Rs 54.6 lakh) and CPM (Rs 1.88 crore) during FY 2013-14.
