New Delhi: In a bid to clean up the election campaigns in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have released an app named "Election Watch Reporter". The primary objective here is to help citizens report violations of model code of conduct.

Once logged in, all you have to do is to capture a picture of anything you think is a violation of the model code of conduct including bribery through liquor, gifts or cash, and submit.

Creators of the app also ask users to submit proofs of expenditure on campaigns by candidates as they are alleged to be spending beyond the set limit. There is a limit of Rs 70 lakhs per candidate and spending beyond this limit is not permitted, but due to lack of evidence, the real expenditure does not come to notice. Many candidates are believed to be spending as much as 10-50 times higher than the limit.

Such proofs may be forwarded to the Election Commission of India, which can later be challenged.

The reports sent by users are also posted online without identifying the user.
