An analysis of the elected candidates in the recently held Delhi legislative polls has shown that the financial might of MLAs has gone down in comparison to earlier elections, with more people belonging to the middle class being voted in.

A breakdown of the numbers, in a study conducted by the Delhi Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms(ADR) has shown that 44 of the 70 newly elected MLAs are crorepatis, in comparison to the corresponding numbers for the 2013 (51) and 2008 (47) polls. Further, 186 crorepati candidates lost the elections, with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate from Rajouri Garden, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, having an estimated worth of Rs. 239 crores.

Meanwhile, the average Delhi MLA is more educated today as compared to earlier, with only 24 out of 70 MLAs declaring that they have an education qualification of 12th pass or below. The corresponding numbers for 2013 and 2008 were 33 and 29 respectively. Further, 43 MLAs declared that they have an education qualification of graduation or above, as compared to 2013 (36) and 2008 (37).

The national capital's average MLA has also grown younger, with 49 legislators between below 50 years old, as compared to 2013 (40) and 2008 (28). Only 22 MLAs were re-elected in the 2015 elections: 21 belonging to the AAP and the other belonging to the BJP.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party made a clean sweep of the Delhi assemblypolls, winning 67 of the 70 seats on offer. Kejriwal was unanimously elected as the leader of the legislative party on Tuesday, following which, he met Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung at the latter's official residence and conveyed the news.

Jung will now send the report regarding the matter to President Pranab Mukherjee, allowing Kejriwal to stake claim towards government formation in the national capital.

The swearing-in ceremony for Kejriwal will be held on February 14 at the Ram Lila Maidan.
