Kolkata, May 2 (UNI) Altogether, 15 crorepati candidates are in the fray for 25 West Bengal Assembly constituencies going to polls in the sixth and final phase on May 5.
Of total 169 candidates in this phase, 15 (nine per cent) candidates have declared assets worth over Rs one crore, according to a report released by the state chapter of Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) today.
Eight (33 per cent) out of 24 nominees fielded by AITC, One (four per cent) out of 25 candidates from BJP, one (25 per cent) out of4 candidates from INC, one (25 per cent) out of four candidates fielded by AIFB, one (13 per cent) out of eight candidates of CPI (M) and two (8 per cent) out of 24 Independent candidates are crorepatis.
The average of assets per candidate contesting in Phase 6 of the West Bengal Assembly Elections is Rs 57.24 lakh.
Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 25 BJP nominees is Rs 29.65 lakh, 24 AITC candidates have average assets of Rs 1. 02 crore, 24 SUCI (C) candidates have average assets worth Rs 21.25 lakh, four INC candidates have average assets worth Rs 4.81crore, average assets of eight CPI (M) candidates is Rs 45.86 lakh.
Eight BSP candidates have average assets of Rs 2.44 lakh and 24 Independent candidates have average assets of Rs 92.43 Lakhs.
A total of 32 (19 per cent) out of the 169 candidates analysed have not declared their PAN details.
Three candidates have declared total annual income of more than Rs 20 Lakhs.
Ninety-three (55 per cent) out of 169 candidates analysed have not declared income tax details.
Eight candidates with assets worth more than Rs 50 lakh have not declared Income Tax details.
Out of the 169 candidates analysed, 33 (20 per cent) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.
Twenty-seven (16 per cent) candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, theft, crimes against women and others.
Four candidates have declared charges related to Murder (Indian Penal Code Section-302).
Six candidates have declared cases of attempt to murder (IPC Section-307).
Five candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women.
Six (24 per cent) out of 25 candidates from BJP, 9 (38 per cent) out of 24 candidates from AITC, 3 (38 per cent) out of 8 candidates from CPI (M), 2 (50 per cent) out of 4 candidates of AIFB, 1 (25 per cent) out of 4 candidates fielded by INC, and 2 (8 per cent) out of 24 Independent candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Six (24 per cent) out of 25 candidates from BJP, 7 (29 per cent) out of 24 candidates from AITC, 2 (25 per cent) out of 8 candidates from CPI (M), 2 (50 per cent) out of 4 candidates of AIFB, 1 (25 per cent) out of 4 candidates fielded by INC, and 2 (8 per cent) out of 24 Independent candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Two ‘Red Alert’ constituencies Panskura Paschim and Panskura Purba--have three or more candidates with declared criminal cases.
