National Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analyzed the affidavits of 276 candidates and 85 legislators

Election watchdog ADR said on Tuesday that out of 276 candidates who switched parties during the 2022 assembly elections in five states, 27 per cent left the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and 13 per cent left the Congress. The ‘National Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms’ (ADR) analyzed the affidavits of 276 candidates and 85 MLAs who switched parties from 2017 to 2022 and this year’s assembly held in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur. Contested.

According to the report, during the recently held assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa, 27 per cent (75 candidates) left the BSP and joined another party, while (37 candidates) 13 per cent left the Congress. .

In the 2022 elections, 54 (20 percent) out of 276 candidates joined the Samajwadi Party (SP). After this 35 candidates (13 percent) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and 31 candidates (11 percent) joined the BSP.

The maximum number of 27 MLAs (32 percent) left the BJP, while 24 MLAs (28 percent) left the Congress to contest the recently held elections.

The report said that 32 out of 85 (38 per cent) MLAs joined the BJP, followed by 19 (22 per cent) MLAs joining the SP and 9 (11 per cent) MLAs joining the Congress.
