"A total of 185 candidates of the national parties are crorepatis, 33 from state parties are crorepatis, 32 from registered unrecognised party and 49 independent candidates are crorepatis," the report stated.
The data indicates that the Congress has 77 crorepati candidates out of 90, while the BJP boasts 71 crorepati candidates. The Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J), AAP, and BSP also fielded a significant number of crorepati candidates.
With an average asset of Rs 1.87 crore per candidate, the report highlights disparities, stating that 84 candidates declared assets over Rs 5 crore, while 476 have assets less than Rs 10 lakh. The richest candidate, Congress leader TS Singh Deo, possesses assets worth Rs 447.71 crore.
However what makes the comparison interesting is that some candidates, like Parwati Teta, Kalawati Sarthi, Gautam Prasad Sahu, Nagesh Puram, and Yashwant Kumar Nishad, declared zero assets. Rajratna Ukey, contesting as the National Youth Party candidate, declared the lowest assets at Rs 500.
The report also delves into candidate liabilities, with Congress's Dr. Ajay Kumar Tirkey topping the list with Rs 8.25 crore. Shankarlal Agarwal and Bhawna Bohra from the independent and BJP categories also have substantial liabilities.
Educationally, 616 candidates have qualifications between the fifth to 12th standard, 502 are graduates or above, and 26 hold diplomas. Notably, 155 women candidates are contesting, an increase from 2018, with Congress fielding 18 women candidates and the BJP fielding 15.
As Chhattisgarh heads towards the second phase of polling on November 17, the report provides a comprehensive snapshot of the diverse backgrounds, financial profiles, and educational qualifications of the candidates vying for assembly seats. The counting of votes is scheduled for December 3.
