The BJP received Rs 259.08 crore, representing 70.69 per cent of the total donations received by all political parties from electoral trusts. The BRS secured Rs 90 crore, constituting 24.56% of the total donations.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the leading recipient of political donations from electoral trusts in the fiscal year 2022-23, securing more than 70 per cent, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) received approximately 25 per cent of the total donations.

An analysis of contribution reports from electoral trusts for the period revealed that 39 corporate and business houses collectively contributed over Rs 363 crore. Thirty-four corporate and business houses contributed over Rs 360 crore to the Prudent Electoral Trust, while one company contributed Rs 2 crore to the Samaj Electoral Trust.

Additionally, two companies contributed Rs 75.50 lakh to the Paribartan Electoral Trust, and two others contributed Rs 50 lakh to the Triumph Electoral Trust, as highlighted by the ADR report.

The BJP received Rs 259.08 crore, representing 70.69 per cent of the total donations received by all political parties from electoral trusts. The BRS secured Rs 90 crore, constituting 24.56% of the total donations.

Three other political parties, namely the YSR Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and the Congress, collectively received Rs 17.40 crore, as reported by the ADR.

Specifically, the Prudent Electoral Trust played a significant role in funding political parties, contributing Rs 256.25 crore to the BJP (compared to Rs 336.50 crore in 2021-22). The Samaj Electoral Trust allocated Rs 1.50 crore of its total income to the BJP in the fiscal year 2022-23.

While Samaj Electoral Trust donated Rs 50 lakh to the Congress, Prudent Electoral Trust distributed funds to four political parties, including the BJP, BRS, YSR Congress, and AAP.
