Campaigning is at its peak in the Gujarat assembly elections. The state has the first phase of voting on December 1 and the second phase on December 5. The affidavits filed by the candidates of the second phase have been studied by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). According to a report released on Monday, a total of 833 candidates are in the fray for 93 seats in the second phase.
Of the 833 candidates contesting in this phase, 163 have criminal cases registered against them. It has increased as compared to 2017. In 2017, out of 822 candidates contesting in the second phase, 101 had criminal cases against them. Whereas, out of 833 candidates, 245 are crorepatis. In the second phase in 2017, the number of such candidates was 199.

You gave tickets to the most tainted
Talking about both the phases together, a total of 1621 candidates are in the fray. Of these, criminal cases are registered against 330 i.e. about 20 percent. Most of the tainted candidates are from Aam Aadmi Party. 61 AAP candidates have criminal cases registered against them. There has been an increase in tainted candidates as compared to 2017. In 2017, a total of 238 candidates had criminal cases against them.
Stains on 60 Congress and 32 BJP candidates
According to ADR report, 60 Congress candidates have criminal cases pending against them. At the same time, cases are going on against 32 candidates of the ruling BJP. A total of 192 candidates have cases registered against them under serious sections like murder, rape and attempt to murder. Of these, 96 candidates are on BJP, Congress and AAP tickets. Criminal cases are registered against 167 candidates of the first phase and a total of 330 candidates of the second phase.

Case against 43 candidates of AAP in serious matters

Maximum 43 candidates of Aam Aadmi Party have cases registered under serious sections. On the other hand, 28 Congress candidates and 25 BJP candidates have cases registered against them under serious sections. In the second phase alone, the number of Aam Aadmi Party candidates with criminal cases is 29.
18 candidates have cases of crime against women

There are a total of 18 candidates on whom cases of crime against women are registered. A candidate is also accused of rape. Five candidates have cases of murder and 20 have cases of attempt to murder. AAP candidate from Daskroi, Kiran Patel, is facing a murder case. Patan’s Congress candidate, Kirit Patel, is also facing a murder case. BJP’s Jethabhai Ghelabhai Ahir (Bharwad) is facing a rape case. Jethabhai is contesting from Shehra seat in Panchmahal district.

Crorepati candidates increased by five percent in the second phase of 2022 elections
In the second phase, five per cent crorepati candidates have increased in 2022 as compared to the second phase of 2017 assembly elections. In 2017, out of 822 candidates in the second phase, 24 percent i.e. 199 candidates were crorepatis. At the same time, out of 833 candidates in the second phase in 2022, 29 percent i.e. 245 candidates are crorepatis. Talking about the average wealth of all these candidates, it is Rs 4.25 crore.

The richest candidate in the second phase has assets worth 661 crores.
The richest candidate in the second phase is BJP’s Jayantibhai Somabhai Patel (JS Patel) from Mansa seat. Patel’s total assets are Rs 661 crore. On the second number is BJP’s Balwant Singh Rajput from Sidhpur, whose assets are Rs 372 crore. Whereas, Ajitsinh Parsottamdas Thakor of Aam Aadmi Party is the third richest candidate from Dabhoi. Thakor’s total assets are Rs 343 crore.
In the second phase, five candidates do not have any property
An interesting figure has also emerged from the report of ADR, according to which, among the candidates contesting in the second phase, there are five such candidates who do not have any property. However, this list does not have candidates from parties like BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party or BTP. In the first phase also one candidate did not have any assets. In this way, a total of six candidates in Gujarat elections have declared that they do not have any property.
BJP gave tickets to the maximum number of millionaires
Of the 182 BJP candidates in both the phases together, 154 are crorepatis. Of the 179 Congress candidates, 142 are crorepatis. In the first phase, BJP has 79 crorepati candidates, while in the second phase, out of 93 BJP candidates, 75 are crorepatis. In the first phase, 65 Congress candidates are crorepatis, while 77 of the 90 candidates contesting in the second phase are crorepatis. Of the total 181 candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, 68 are crorepatis.
