The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) collected Rs 76.85 crores from 613 donations in the year 2015-16, which is the highest among all political parties. Indian National Congress (INC) party received Rs 20.42 crore from 918 donations, said a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW). 

The report highlighted that donations declared by the BJP is more than thrice the aggregate declared by the INC, NCP, CPI, CPM and AITC for the same period.  BSP, on the other hand, declared that the party did not receive any donations above Rs 20,000 during 2015-16.
The national parties include BJP, the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
 
The ADR report also noted that the national parties have witnessed a decrease in donations by Rs 528.67 crore, which is 84 percent decline from the previous year.  Total donation, above Rs 20,000, collected by the national political parties during the year 2015-16 was Rs. 102.02 crore from 1,744 donations.
 

NCP declared the highest decrease of 98 percent from Rs 38.82 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 71 lakh in 2015-16, while donations to BJP decreased by 82 percent, from Rs 437.35 crore during 2014-15 to Rs 76.85 crore during 2015-16.
 
Interestingly, BJP’s donations had witnessed a jump by 156 percent during 2014-15 compared to 2013-14, while that of INC had increased by 137 percent during the same period, the report noted.
 
Based on the donations report submitted to the Election Commission annually, ADR focused on donations received by the national political parties above Rs 20,000 during the financial year 2015-16.
