On Saturday, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Madhya Pradesh Election Watch released a detailed analytical report after analysis of the self-sworn affidavits of all 76 candidates, who are contesting for the post of President in the Municipal Council Elections 2018, scheduled to be held on January 17, 2018. There are total 20 seats, including one seat for by-election.

The analysis showcases that when it comes to financial background, out of the 76 candidates analysed, 25(33%) are crorepatis. The analysis of party-wise crorepati candidates around 9(45%) out of 20 candidates from BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), 8(42%) out of 19 candidates from INC (Indian National Congress), 1(50%) out of 2 candidates from SP (Samajwadi Party) and 7(25%) and 28 Independent candidates are crorepatis.

Rolly Shivahare from Madhya Pradesh Election Watch told ‘The Hitavada’ that all information about candidates in the report has been taken from the affidavits filed online by candidates along with their nomination papers on the Government website.

The average assets per candidate analysed for this election is Rs 1.63 crore. Party-wise average assets shows that the average assets per candidate for 20 BJP candidates is Rs 2.04 crore, 19 INC candidates have average assets of Rs 2.50 crore, 4 BSP candidates have average assets worth Rs 12.11 lakh, 2 SP candidates have average assets worth Rs 51.83 lakh, 2 SHS candidates have average assets worth Rs 7.75 lakh and 28 Independent candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.21 crore. As per the analysis done, around 16% of the candidates are with declared criminal cases. In the candidates with declared criminal cases category, 12(16%) out of 76 candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves in their self-sworn affidavits. Whereas party-wise candidates with declared criminal cases around 3 (15%) out of 20 candidates from BJP, 2 (11%) out of 19 candidates from INC, 1 (50%) out of 2 candidates from SHS and 6 (21%) out of 28 Independents candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. In other category, when it comes to party wise candidates with serious declared criminal cases, around 2 (11%) out of 19 candidates from INC, 1 (5%) out 20 candidates from BJP, 1 (50%) out of 2 candidates from SHS and 5 (18%) out of 28 Independent candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. When it comes to age details of candidates, 33(43%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 to 40 years. 39(51%) candidates have declared their age to be between 41-60 years, while 4(5%) candidates have declared their age to be between 61-80 years. The educational qualification details of the candidates showcase that there are 34(45%) candidates, who have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th pass and 12th pass, while 28(37%) candidates have declared their educational qualification as graduate and above. There are 13(17%) candidates, who have declared themselves to be just literate, while 1 candidate has declared his education illiterate.
