UPEW along with ADR flagged off the preparations for the upcoming UP elections. Uttar Pradesh is a densely populated state with several developmental concerns such as high poverty rates, high infant mortality, low literacy rates and lesser life expectancy rates compared to other states in the country. The state experiences lower economic growth in the past decade as the compound annual growth rate of its Gross Domestic Product for 2000-01 to 2008-09 has been 10.8% compared to 13.4% in other General Category states. 

UPEW/ADR has been monitoring the candidates for 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election declared by political parties. Various report based on the analysis done by our team are being prepared that will be released in the meeting.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, 2007 was held during the months of April and May, 2007 for 403 constituencies. The reports that will be released will include the analysis of criminal, financial backgrounds and other details of the candidates and winners of those elections. Information provided by the Election Commission of India and details from the affidavits filed by the candidates have been used for the analysis.
