New Delhi: An analysis by the National Election Watch (NEW) and the Association for Democratic reforms has revealed that out of the 543 members of the newly elected parliament 186 have a criminal record against them.

34 percent of the house has disclosed, in their election affidavits, criminal cases against themselves.

This number was 30 percent in 2009, it has gone up by 4 percent, sources said.

As per the same analysis, an aspirant with a criminal record had a 14 percent chance to win and the one without it had a 5 percent chance.

The criminal charges against these candidates include murder, attempt to murder, communal disharmony, kidnapping, crimes against women, etc.

Party wise, the largest number of the cases are from BJP where 98 of the 281 members have declared criminal cases against them.

The candidates who have disclosed criminal cases are in numbers, eight of the 44 from the Congress, six of the 37 from the AIADMK, of the 18 from the Shiv Sena, and seven of the 34 fielded by Trinamool Congress
