The 6th phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2014 is scheduled on 17th April in 121 Parliamentary constituencies across 12 states and 1761 candidates will be contesting in these constituencies.National Election Watch (NEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 1739 candidates out of 1761 candidates contesting.

According to the data released by NEW and ADR, 465 candidates out of 1739 analysed have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore that is 27% of the total candidates contesting. Karnataka has the maximum number of crorepatis spread over 28 constituencies with 118 (27%) out of 432 analysed candidates.

Jammu & Kashmir has the highest percentage of crorepatis, 38% with five crorepatis out of 13 candidates having assets over one crore. Manipur has the least percentage with 13% as it has only one crorepati out of eight candidates. One constituency from both Jammu & Kashmir and Manipur will go to polls and no candidate contesting in 5th phase has any criminal case attached to them from the aforementioned two states.

86% of the candidates fielded by the Indian National Congress (INC) are crorepatis while Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has 83% and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has 43% prosperous candidates.

Average assets per candidate for INC is Rs 89.89 crore (101 Candidates), BJP Rs.11.35 crore (105 candidates), AAP Rs. 3.48 crore (108 candidates) and for BSP is Rs. 1.73 crore (118 candidates).

Moreover, the report indicates average asset per candidate contesting in the 5th phase is Rs.8.14 crore, 279 (16%) candidates have criminal cases and 173(10%) have serious criminal cases.
