Most MLAs in 5 poll-bound states backed by less than 40% of voters: ADR analysis
The Association for Democratic Reforms analysis for the five poll-bound states found that the winners represented a minority of the voter population.

NEW DELHI: Over 90% of candidates who won in the five poll-bound states received support from less than 40% of the registered voters. An analysis done by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) for the states of Delhi,ChhattisgarhMadhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Rajasthan found that the winners represented a minority of the voter population. 

For instance, in Delhi, 99% of the winners won with less than 40% of the votes. Dr SCL Gupta from Sangam Vihar constituency and Parvez Hashmi from Okhla won with the lowest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (14%). Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar won with the highest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (41%). 

In a study of the vote share, ADR found that 47 winners out of 70 (67%) won with less than 50% of the votes polled. Dr SCL Gupta from Sangam Vihar won with the lowest vote share of 27% and Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar won with the highest vote share of 64%. Sheila Dikshit, chief minister of Delhi, won with a vote share of 52% and representativeness of 29% from New Delhi constituency. 

In Rajasthan, 98% of the winners won with less than 40% of the registered votes. Ramswaroop from Kotputli and Anita from Nagar constituency won with the lowest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (14%). Anjana Udailal from Nimbahera won with the highest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (48%). 

Around 161 winners out of 200 (81%) won with less than 50% of the votes polled. Ramswaroop from Kotputli and Anita from Nagar constituency won with the lowest vote share of 21%. Mahendra Jeet Singh from Bagidora constituency won with the highest vote share of 63%. CM Ashok Gehlotwon with 55% vote share and 31% representativeness from Sardarpura. 

In Madhya Pradesh, 93% of the winners won with less than 40% of the registered votes. Bhanwar Raja Manavendra Singh from Maharajpur and Ahirwar Ramdayal from Chandla won with the lowest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (12%). CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan won with the highest representativeness of 45% from Budhni. 186 winners out of 230 (81%) won with less than 50% of the votes polled. Bhanwar Raja Manavendra Singh from Maharajpur won with the least vote share of 19%. Ramesh Mendola from Indore-2 constituency won with the highest vote share of 63%. Shivraj Singh Chouhan won with a vote share of 62% from Budhni. 

In Chhattisgarh, 91% of the winners won with less than 40% of the registered votes. Mahesh Gagda from Bijapur won with the lowest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (13%). Nand Kumar Patel from Kharsia won with the highest percentage of votes out of the electorate (48%). 

In Mizoram, 90% of the winners won with less than 40% of the registered votes. K Liantlinga from Aizawl South-I constituency won with the lowest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (26%). Nihar Kanti Chakma from West Tuipui won with the highest percentage of votes out of the total electorate (48%).
