The CJI has said they will be heard separately.

The Supreme Court has categorised the petitions challenging the electoral bonds scheme into three sets and will hear them separately.

A bench of Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice P.S. Narasimha divided the petitions into three sets according to LiveLaw.

1. The challenge to the electoral bonds scheme;

2. Whether political parties should be bought within the purview of the Right to Information Act, 2005; and

3. The challenge to the amendment to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010 through the Finance Act of 2016 and 2018.

The CJI then said that the three sets will be heard separately.

Lawyer Prashant Bhushan, earlier appearing for PIL petitioner NGO, the Association for Democratic Reforms, had said there are several constitutional questions involved in the petitions which have a tremendous bearing on the sanctity of the electoral process.

The NGO, which had filed the PIL in 2017 on the alleged issue of corruption and subversion of democracy through illicit and foreign funding of political parties and lack of transparency in the accounts of all political parties, had filed an interim application in March before the assembly polls in West Bengal and Assam seeking that window for sale of electoral bonds be not reopened.
