The BJD received Rs 291 crore income from unknown sources during the 2021-22 fiscal, a report by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR), which analysed the annual audit and contribution reports of 27 regional parties, said.
This made the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD the second-highest earning regional party in terms of unknown sources of funding after Tamil Nadu's DMK, which got Rs 306 crore during the same period. K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) stood third with Rs 153 crore income from unknown sources.
The BJD earned 94% of its total income from unknown sources, the DMK 96% and BRS got 70%.
In terms of overall earnings, the DMK topped the list with Rs 318 crore followed by BJD's Rs 307 crore. BRS earned the third highest of Rs 218 crore.
ADR report said 76.15% of the total income of the 27 parties - Rs 887 crore out of Rs 1,165 crore - came from unknown sources.
